Thomas “Tom” Perry Gourley

April 13, 1952 – June 15, 2024

Thomas “Tom” Perry Gourley, 72, of Penhook, VA, went home to be with the Lord on June 15, 2024, after a battle with kidney cancer.  He was born on April 13, 1952, in Wilmington, NC, to his late parents, Frank Arnett Gourley and Georgia Bousman Gourley. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Donna Rankins Gourley; daughters Jodi Gourley and Jillian Gourley Patterson (Kyle); son Justin Gourley (Heather); and granddaughter Kyla Peterson.  Also surviving are his brother Frank Gourley Jr. (Genene); and sisters Barbara Collins and Catherine “Cathy” Garrott (Jack) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Tom never met a stranger. He was patient and quick with a smile.  He was a wonderful cook and singer. He enjoyed gardening, reading, word puzzles and card games, and spending time with his family.  Tom was a graduate of Danville Community College and Virginia Tech.  His career was primarily spent working with farmers through Farmers Home Administration, Farm Service Agency, and the National Agricultural Statistics Service.  He was a member of Glade Hill Baptist Church and served as the choir director for more than 30 years.

There will be a memorial service Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 3 p.m. at Glade Hill Baptist Church (6627 Colonial Turnpike, Glade Hill, VA). The family will be available to greet you prior to the service beginning at 2 p.m.
