Annie Belle Townes

June 23, 1940 – June 8, 2024

Annie Belle Townes, 83, of Rocky Mount, VA, transitioned to her heavenly home on June 8, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family. Up until the very end, Annie Belle maintained her kindness, laughter, compassion, love of family and friends, and a gratitude for a well-lived life. Her warm smile and infectious laughter brought joy to those around her, and her unwavering love and support enriched the lives of all who knew her.

Annie Belle’s life was characterized by her love for fishing, spending time with family, and cooking for anyone who walked through her front door. She was always the life of the party and had an abundance of love for everyone she met. Annie Belle was loved by so many; she was a true hero, and her love knew no bounds. She had a knack for making friends easily and making all friends feel like her best friend. Annie Belle was an exemplary mother and human being. She embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and an unending generosity that could be seen in the care that she has provided for so many over the years.

Annie Belle was born on June 23, 1940, to the late Robert Mack and Belle Muse. She dedicated many years of her life to her work and retired from Erath Veneer Corp in Rocky Mount, VA. In addition to her professional career, Annie Belle also devoted herself to rearing her many grandchildren. To her, there was no distinction of “grand”; they were all hers, as she would often say, showering them with love and care throughout their lives. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her own children to embrace the next generations, leaving an indelible mark on her family’s lives.

In addition to her parents, Annie Belle was preceded in death by her two sons, Ronnie Townes and Charles Townes. She is survived by her three sons, Junior “Alan” Townes, Christopher “Eugene” Townes (Annette), and Michael “Tony” Townes; three daughters, Rose Smith (Garry), Betty “Deebie” Townes, and Cynthia Townes. Two sisters, Shirley (Marshall) Ross and Lois (Tyrone) Hale; six brothers, Reverend Vandel (Florine) Muse, Mike Muse, Timmy Muse, Keith Muse, Freeman Muse, and Alvin Muse.  She also leaves behind 27 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, a host of great-great-grandchildren, and many friends who have become family.

A Homegoing Celebration will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel, 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024. Interment will follow in the Townes Family Cemetery (Tom’s Knob Road). Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

During this time of bereavement, the family and those left to cherish her memory take comfort in remembering Annie Belle for the beautiful soul and kind heart that she had.
