Frances Montgomery Rutrough
August 20, 1920 – June 8, 2024
Frances Irene Rutrough, daughter of Joel A. and Annie (Jamison) Montgomery, was born August 20, 1920 in Franklin County, Virginia. She passed away peacefully with the family by her bedside June 8, 2024 at the age of 103 years 9 months and 19 days at the home of her youngest daughter. She was baptized May 24, 1936 into the Old German Baptist Brethren Church to which she remained faithful. She was married June 11, 1941 to James E. Rutrough. This union was blessed with three children. She, with her husband, was called to the deacon’s office November 21, 1951 and she labored with him faithfully as long as health permitted. She was conscientious and dedicated to the duties of home and church. She was of a quiet nature but her meek and quiet disposition left us many Godly examples. She was anointed June 20, 2014.
She is survived by her children, Doris Peters and special friend Dale Austin, Irene and William Jamison, and Wayne and special friend Marcia Dehart, grandchildren; Rita and John Popejoy, Roland and Erlene Bowman, Aaron Bowman, Michael and Jennie Jamison, Jeffrey and Krista Jamison, Jeannie and Wayne Reed, Brian and Donna Jamison, Venessa Rutrough, Jason and Kathy Rutrough, 37 great-grandchildren, 48 great-great- grandchildren, brother Howard and Goldie Montgomery, sister Catherine Bowman, sister-in-law Carol Montgomery, step grandchildren; Sue Gipe, D.A. and Kenlynn Peters, Jean and Roger Boone, Maryann and Calvin Ronk, and Joey and Glenna Peters, several step great and great-great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 64 years in November, 2005, her parents, her father and mother-in-law John and Lura Rutrough, sons-in-law Edwin Bowman and David Peters, a great-grandson Taylor Hardy, a great-granddaughter Nellie Rose Jamison, brothers, Crist and Ethelene Montgomery, Levi and Lydia May Montgomery, Jacob and Mary Montgomery, Robert Montgomery, brothers and sisters-in-law Elwood Bowman, Charlie and Ernest and Janie Rutrough, Joel and Bessie Rutrough, David and Betty Rutrough, Frances and Hobart Kimmel, Nannie Belle and William Garber, step grandchildren; Raymond and Jeanette Peters, step grandson-in-law Donnie Gipe, step great-granddaughter Ginger Ronk.
We wish to thank everyone for your support and prayers during the time of caring for our loved one. We also thank the Carilion Hospice Team for all their help in the last four months.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Mountain View Old German Baptist Brethren Church with the Home Brethren officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Her family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Monday at the church. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
