FERRUM, VA, April 12, 2024 – The Sam Lionberger Jr. Trustee Appreciation Award is named in honor Sam Lionberger, the longest serving Chair of the Ferrum College Board of Trustees in the past 50 years. This award has been generously funded by current members of the Ferrum College Board of Trustees. This year’s honorees were Manager of Athletics Administrative Operations Ms. Gail Holley and Assistant Professor of History Dr. Nicole Greer Golda. Ferrum College recognizes the contributions of its faculty and staff to the betterment of the college and local community. This award honors one faculty member and one staff member who have significantly contributed to the advancement of the College’s strategy. The award recipients are nominated by faculty and staff, and their respective councils recommend them to the Board of Trustees and the President. Current Chair of the Ferrum College Board of Trustees Scott Showalter presented the awards to Holley and Greer Golda at the ceremony. “It is a privilege to be part of this special occasion and to have the chance to personally recognize the dedication and exceptional contributions of our outstanding employees. We are deeply appreciative of the opportunity to play a role in honoring the hard work and achievements of our valued faculty and staff members. Their commitment and passion are integral to the success of our institution, and we are honored to join in celebrating their accomplishments.” Holley started working at the College in 1979 and has been a part of the Athletics department since 1995. She was delighted and honored to receive the award. “I have been blessed by many staff and students that I have been able to form lasting relationships with over the years. Ferrum College is a special place, and I have enjoyed the opportunity to know many students and see them excel from graduating, getting married, and starting their own family and even seeing their children attend Ferrum. I hope to continue in this role until retirement,” Holley shared. Greer Golda was also surprised to hear her name called for this award. “I am incredibly honored that other faculty nominated me and that the committee selected me. I care very deeply about the continued success of our Ferrum community, and it is nice to know that my efforts are appreciated,” she said. |
