Lloyd J. Bridges, Sr.

July 19, 1939 – March 28, 2024

Lloyd J. “Pug” Bridges, Sr., age 84 of Ferrum died Thursday, March 28, 2024. He was born July 19, 1939 a son of the late William and Mary Ester Bridges and was also preceded in death by his brothers, Ernest and Floyd Bridges; and brother-in-law, Samuel Warren Shively. Pug loved life and lived it on his own terms. He was a hard worker who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing and teaching them the values of life. Pug’s favorite places to eat were Long John Silvers and Ferrum Dairy Queen where he would meet up with friends and tell stories. He also had a passion for his little red truck. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Bridges; children, Leonora Bridges (Michael Guilliams), Lloyd Bridges, Jr. (Lorie), Jason Bridges (Deana), Melissa Austin (Robert); grandchildren, Zach (Kelley), Jared (Alex), Kiley and Jaden, Patrick, Dylan and Avery; great-grandchildren, Baylor and Parker; sister, Ellen Shively; special cousin, Joe Bridges; numerous nieces, nephews and special friends including Charlie Lee “Cotton” Adkins, Travis Pendleton, David Rezendes and Paul Simms. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the Ferrum Rescue Squad for their efforts. A celebration of his life will be held at the Bridges Family Cemetery (45 Bridges Lane, Ferrum, Va.) 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2024. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Ferrum Rescue Squad. His family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at his home (1755 Buffalo Ridge Road, Ferrum, Va.).
