Juanita Dale Berger
August 21, 1948 – March 7, 2024
God saw that she was getting tired and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around her and whispered, Juanita “Come with Me”. A golden heart stop beating, hard-working hands put to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best.
On Thursday March 7, 2024 Juanita Dale Berger departed this life at Atrium Hospital in Charlotte, NC. She was born to the late Leonard Berger and the late Mary Muse Berger Sheffield on August 21, 1948 in Franklin County, Va. She was also preceded in death by one loving sister, Rosa Ella Trent.
Juanita joined the church of our Lord Jesus Christ at an early age and was a graduate of G.W. Carver High School in Fieldale, Va. She moved to Roanoke to continue her education and joined the Roanoke City Sheriff’s Department in 1979 where she served proudly as a deputy sheriff for 25 years until her retirement in 2004. She was a long-time faithful member of First Baptist Church in Salem, Va. and later became a dedicated member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, one of oldest historical black churches in Roanoke, Va. Juanita held the position as church clerk where she worked faithful in keeping the church open with Dr. Travis Curtis.
She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Theodore Benjamin James; one grandson, Justin James; five sisters, Linda Allen of Hampton, GA., June (Leroy) Stockton of Martinsville, Va.. Shirley Brown and Shay Berger of Charlotte, NC and Eunice Becker of Roanoke, Va.; three brothers, James Berger of Martinsville, Va., Marshall (Florence) Berger of Charleston, WV and Raymond (Maxine) Berger of Walnut Cove, NC; many nieces, nephews and a host of loving relatives and friends.
Sometimes it is hard to understand why some things have to be but in his wisdom, God has planned beyond our power to see. So looking back in tenderness along the paths we’ve trod, we cherish the years we had with you and leave the rest to God…. The Family.
Funeral services will be conducted at Truevine Missionary Baptist Church, 12:00 Noon Friday, March 15, 2024 with Rev. James Perkins and Elder Anthony Smith officiating.
