Bent Fox Farms – “Haven for the High-End Hog”; bentfoxfarm.com

What is “Whole System Thinking” and how is it important to conserving the land around us, improving our health and the health of the animals we depend on for food? Join us for this presentation as Ms. Dribben explains her whole system approach to hog farming which includes heritage breed hogs, woodland paddock rotation, and non-GMO, locally-sourced feed supplements. She will also explain her small cut flower operation that uses no chemicals, including no “natural” packaged pesticides or fertilizers, while relying on building their soil through compost created on the farm along with the magic of companion plantings.

Angela Dribben is an artist, writer, and hog farmer working in the Appalachian region of Virginia. She holds a BA from Randolph Macon Women’s College and an MFA from Randolph College. It is her privilege to serve on the Virginia Commission for the Arts’ Teaching Artist Roster. She has served her literary community as an avid book reviewer and editor, and has also served as an adjudicator in many contests including Virginia’s Poetry Out Loud. Her debut collection, Everygirl, was a finalist for the 2020 Broadkill Review Dogfish Head Prize. Her most recent work can be found in Los Angeles Review: Orion, Coffin Bell, Split Rock Review, and others. Prior to settling in to farming, she served her community as a massage therapist, yoga teacher, and youth sports performance trainer for over two decades. She currently serves her community through memberships in Rotary, Ruritans, and the Virginia Tech Extension’s Master Gardener’s Program.
