Ethel Martha Wright Adams

Ethel Martha Wright Adams of Rocky Mount passed away peacefully Sunday, March 3, 2024 while in the care of English Meadow in Blacksburg, Virginia. Ethel was born in Vinton on August 9, 1924. Her parents were the late Brad B. Wright and Ethel M. Feazelle. Mrs. Adams was pre-deceased by her sister, Julia Akers and two brothers, Berman B. Wright and Ralph H. Wright. 

She attended school in Franklin County at Maple Branch Elementary. Ethel worked thirty years and retired from Tultex Mills in Roanoke. She was a dedicated worker and faithful employee. Also, Ethel was a member of Antioch Church of Brethren in Rocky Mount, where she was baptized July 23, 1934. 

Ethel is survived by three nephews, Wayne Akers of Longwood, Florida, Mike Wright (Jean) of Riner, Virginia and Walter S. Wright (Massie) of Chandler, Arizona and their families. Others left to cherish her memory include Nicholas and Amanda Akers of Debary, Florida, Brian Wright, Jennifer Wright; (Nick and Megan Wright, Maddie and J.T. Thomas, Cole, Kennedi and Branson Wright), Brad and Ashley Wright (Jaxon) of Riner, VA. 

Her hobbies included gardening, canning and freezing fruits and vegetables and growing flowers. Ethel enjoyed many friends and activities at English Meadow in her later years. She had a great sense of humor and loved to sing in the halls. They called her “our songbird” and she always joked about marrying a rich man. She loved bingo, trivia, UNO and the simple things in life. 

Funeral services will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel, 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2024 with Pastor Eric Anspaugh officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens (Roanoke). Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
