Harold Thomas Jones

Harold Thomas Jones, age 83, of Glade Hill, VA, was born December 22, 1940, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on February 8th, 2024. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Jones; mother and stepfather; Lorine and Lester Scott; sister, Nancy Spencer; father and mother-in-law, James and Hilda Cundiff; brother-in-law, Rodney Cundiff; and sister-in-law, Shelby Turner. 

Harold is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Daphene; his daughters and their spouses, Teresa and Mike Brown, Susan and Matt Wray. Along with his four grandchildren, Heather and spouse Brian Fidler, Dustin Brown and special friend Keri Ramsey, Hallie and Aniston Wray; his great-grandchildren, Corbin, Kai and Maeven Fidler; his sister, Patricia Wainwright; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Elton and Alexis Cundiff, Bonnie Cundiff, Judy and Vernon Hudson, Debra and Steve Bowyer, Ned and Judy Cundiff; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Harold was a supervisor at Lane Company where he retired with over 40 years of dedicated service. In his capacity of finishing room supervisor, he traveled to North Carolina, Ohio, and New York where he often reminisced about his travels. In his younger days, the family spent almost every weekend at the ball field. He played softball for the Marlen Davis Construction team. He was never much of a hitter, but he was one heck of a pitcher. Later in life, he umpired many games at the Doe Run Ballfield. Harold was an avid deer, turkey, and coon hunter where he spent many nights walking through the woods of Franklin County with his favorite dogs, Queen and Thunder, returning in time to go to work the next morning. 

Harold enjoyed playing cards with his buddies and always got there early to get his favorite seat. He was a sports enthusiast and supported Franklin County Eagle Athletics for many years. His TV channel was always on ESPN, and he could give you the score or play of any game. Harold was meticulous about his yard and in his final months, his sons-in-law, “M&M mowing” took care of his yard under Harold’s tight supervision. Along with his passion for sports, he enjoyed bluegrass music and attended the Galax festival to watch his grandson, Dustin, compete. Harold adored all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren where he never missed one of their ball games and taught them the love of hunting. He will forever be loved and missed. 

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, February 11, 2024 at Flora Funeral Chapel with Pastor Bradley Turner officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. His family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Saturday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
