Florence Edna Quinn

Florence Edna Quinn, age 96 of Ferrum, VA and formerly of Cresskill, NJ, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. She was born in Teaneck, NJ, a daughter of Walter and Genny Schinski, eldest of four sisters. Florence married Thomas J. Quinn (deceased) and raised eight children in Cresskill, NJ. She earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in education. She was very involved in the church community of St. Therese’ of Lisieux Parish in Cresskill, NJ. Upon retirement from teaching, she served in the United States Peace Corp in Grenada. Her eight children, Diane, Thomas, Marilyn, David, Barbara, Christopher, Phillip, and Monica (deceased), as well as 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren will miss her stalwart presence. Upon moving to Ferrum, Florence continued many social justice activities including volunteering at Franklin County Helping Hands, Habitat for Humanity as well as many other community organizations. She spent a considerable portion of her life simply helping others. Florence was a dedicated member of THE THIRD ORDER FRANCISCANS, FRIENDS OF FRANCIS AND CLARE. A funeral mass will be celebrated and livestreamed (Florence Quinn Funeral Mass – YouTube) at Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church (Roanoke, VA), 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 11, 2024.   Her family will receive friends 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
