Rodney Waylon Scott, Sr.
Waylon Scott, age 84, of Rocky Mount, Virginia went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 13, 2022. He was an active and longstanding member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church and served his Lord through the Children’s Backpack Ministry, Bridging the Gap Ministry, and the church food pantry. He also worked as a volunteer in his local hospital auxiliary. In this youth, he served his country in the Virginia Army National Guard. Waylon was a grocery merchandiser and regional sales manager for Sav-A-Stop of Salem, Va. for 20 years, later retiring from H.T. Hackney in 2008. Waylon was a lover of music, the outdoors, and animals, as well as an enthusiastic golfer. He had a lively sense of humor and an energetic spirit.
Waylon is preceded in death by his parents, Ezra and Wilma (Gillispie) Scott, and his brothers Lester and Glee Scott (Edna). Waylon is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gale Scott; son, Rodney (Wanda); daughter, Melissa (Cliff); granddaughters, Whitney (Lou) and Michaela (Michael); brother James Arthur; sister, Joyce Cundiff; sister-in-law Sandra Holt (Tommy); nieces Celeste, Marcy (Steve), Pam (Tim), and Bonnie; nephews Lacy, Art (Megan), Glee Jr. ‘Scotty’ (Amy), Eddie, Mike (Donna), and Ricky; numerous cousins; and special grand-dog Jessie.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 19 at Franklin Heights Church, 110 Hilltop Dr. Rocky Mt., Va., with entombment to follow at Mountain View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 18, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Franklin Heights Church. Attendees are requested to wear face coverings. The family requests that donations be made to the ministries of Waylon’s heart at Franklin Heights Church in lieu of flowers. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
