Hazel Diane Mines-Bernard

Hazel Diane Mines-Bernard, 67, of Boon-Bernard Drive in Boones Mill passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and pastor. She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband Gordon Preston Bernard and brothers Marvin Dell Mines and James Ray Mines.

Diane loved her family and her church, the Boones Mill Christian Church, and participated in many aspects of the church as deaconess and “congregational life” leader. She was instrumental in the planning and presentation of special meals and church events. Members referred to Diane as the “church mouse” who performed many behind the scenes tasks which helped the church to run smoothly including administrative duties and church maintenance. She helped to organize quarterly Red Cross Blood drives and many outreach events to the community. Her loving attention and devotion to her church will be greatly missed!

Diane is survived by her brother Barry Lee Mines and Suzie, son Christopher Tolley daughter Renee Martone, stepson Preston Bernard, grandsons, Logan Tolley and Ethan Tolley, great-granddaughter Harper Tolley, and special niece Amber Mines Mattox, a great niece, and three great nephews.

Diane will be remembered most as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and devoted and helpful friend to many. Her family, friends, and church will miss her dearly.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 30, at 2pm at Boones Mill Christian Church, 7950 Grassy Hill Road, Boones Mill, VA 24065 with inurnment to follow in the church columbarium with Rev. Elaine Austin officiating. There will be a family visitation prior to the service at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Boones Mill Christian Church at the address above.
