FERRUM – The Ferrum College community mourns the loss of men’s soccer and lacrosse player Cole Lipinski, who passed away on Sunday, September 19.
A senior at Ferrum, Cole was in his fourth season as a goalkeeper on the men’s soccer team and was set to start his third season with the men’s lacrosse program in the spring.
A native of King George, Virginia, Cole was a popular student and leader on campus. He was a member of the Boone Honors Program, majoring in Health and Human Performance with a concentration in Exercise Science. Cole was loved by his teammates, friends, faculty and staff.
A vigil honoring Cole is scheduled for Friday, September 24, at 4:00 p.m. on the Franklin Hall Quad at Ferrum College.
On Sunday, September 26, the men’s soccer team will observe a moment of silence prior to its 1:00 p.m. home game against Virginia Wesleyan University. The two teams have agreed to leave the Panther net open as a tribute to Cole, who was slated to be the starting goalkeeper. The net will be left unguarded for 99 seconds, Cole’s jersey number this season.
