Grammy Winner Mavis Staples Brings Her Message to the Harvester

ROCKY MOUNT – Two-time Grammy winner and soul/gospel/R&B legend Mavis Staples will perform at Harvester Performance Center on Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 8 p.m., the venue announced today.
Over Staples’ seven-decade career, she has been inducted into the Blues and Rock & Roll halls of fame, sung for presidents, marched with civil rights leaders and collaborated with musicians that run the gamut from Prince and Bob Dylan to Arcade Fire and Hozier.

Her 12th studio album, “We Get By” is a full-length collaboration with multi-Grammy Award-winner Ben Harper. His lean arrangements showcase Staples’ extraordinary voice and seize the moment to relay a message of love, change and justice. The title track features Staples and Harper joining forces to sing a promise of hope.
“I sing because I want to leave people feeling better than I found them,” Staples said. “I want them to walk away with a positive message in their hearts, feeling stronger than they felt before. I’m singing to myself for those same reasons, too.”
Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. at harvester-music.com.
