James Wray Sink Jr.
James Wray Sink Jr. peacefully passed away on Sunday July 11th, 2021 in his Salisbury, North Carolina home, surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his wife and son, Melanie and Kemper Sink, his sisters, Leigh Anne and Susan Sink, and many more aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Standing tall at six feet and ten inches and a man of witty one-liners, he was referred to by many as Pops, Big Jim, Hoover, Big Brother, Jimmy, Bro, the Big Teddy Bear, the Big Sweet Man, Little Jimmy, Radford Rowdy, Uncle Big Jim, and – affectionately by family – “The Ass.” He was a beloved man of many titles and many quips.
Big Jim graduated from Radford University with a Bachelor’s in business, where he also played golf and basketball on the university teams. He was a scratch golfer that few could beat, and he played with the same golf “sticks” since high school.
Big Jim will be remembered for his love of church and his faith. Many know how much he loved his son, his nieces and nephews, and all children. He even frequently read to the children at Overton Elementary School.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 16th from 6pm to 8pm at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount, VA. Big Jim will be honored with a service at Sandy Ridge Baptist Church, 1444 Bonbrook Mill Road, Rocky Mount, VA on Saturday, July 17th at 2pm with the burial at the Angle family cemetery immediately afterwards. Luncheon to be served in true Sink fashion at the cemetery with those who have gone before us.
Big Jim was one of a kind – the tallest person in everyone’s life with the biggest heart – and he will be deeply missed.
