Patrick Co. Man Arrested After Standoff

PATRICK CO. – An Ararat man has been arrested following an aggravated domestic disturbance, according to Sheriff Dan Smith.

At approximately 2:56 a.m. Saturday morning, the sheriff’s office 911 center received a call of a domestic disturbance in which shots had allegedly been fired.

Sgt. Winfred Hill and Deputy Mike Harris responded to 210 Willis Gap Road in Ararat and made contact with a female who alleged that her husband had fired a gun inside of the residence. Smith stated that the husband had fled the scene prior to deputies arriving.

An investigation led to the discovery of a firearm and bullet hole in the floor of the residence.

Gary Lee Ayers Jr., 32, was arrested after a brief standoff at the residence on Sunday by Deputies Christian Gilbert and Jesse Pickerel.

Ayers is charged with shooting inside an occupied dwelling and is being held without bond in the Patrick County Jail.
