Much-Needed Rain Falls Across Franklin Co.
FRANKLIN CO. – A potent Spring-like storm system brought moderate to heavy rain to the area Wednesday night into Thursday with a final wave of moderate rain Friday morning.
Recently, a handful of small brush fires had been reported over the past 1-2 weeks with large brush fire on Five Mile Mountain in the western part of the county. The Five Mile Mountain fire took days to contain.
Rainfall of .50″ to 1″ fell Wednesday night and Thursday. Another 1″ of rain fell Friday morning, bringing 3-day totals to 1-2″ for most areas.
The rain fell steady enough to soak into the ground. Cooler air kept the severe weather just to our south, into Northern North Carolina with a confirmed tornado in Burlington Thursday. The cool wedge of air allowed the rain to fall more gently, where it was able to soak into the ground rather that running off.
After a dry weekend, we will see a return to unsettled, rainy weather next Tuesday and beyond with possible storms as well.
