Accident in Work Zone Blocks Traffic on 122

FRANKLIN COUNTY – A single vehicle accident left Booker T. Washington Highway, Route 122, closed for a short time Wednesday.

A Chevy pickup truck could be seen with front end damage sitting across both lanes of the Blackwater River bridge that’s currently open. A section of the old bridge appeared to be damaged in the southbound lane as well.

No word on any injuries or charges.

Work crews closed all traffic at the bridge around the noon hour Wednesday. Many motorists had to take Route 220 to Wirtz Road as a detour.

Construction on the new bridge is expected to be complete next month, by the end of November, VDOT says. The old bridge is down to one lane as crews prepare to pave around the new bridge.
