Winds Top 50 mph As Cold Front Blows Through

FRANKLIN COUNTY – A strong cold front moved through Franklin County and the rest of the area Thursday morning. Strong storms ahead of the front downed trees in a few areas Wednesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service has a Wind Advisory up for all areas but Southside through 8 p.m. Thursday. Winds at noon Thursday gusted to 51 mph at the Roanoke airport. Winds over 35 mph were common across the rest of the area.
A large part of a tree was blown onto a truck off of Route 122 east of Rocky Mount.
April can be one of our area’s most active months weather-wise.
Another powerful storm system will move into the area by Easter Sunday, with a chance of heavy rain and severe weather.
