Norma Jean Campbell Morris
Our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Norma Jean Campbell Morris, 83, went to Heaven to be with Jesus on Thursday, March 19, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Morris, affectionately known as “Granny Jean” to all who loved her, worked several jobs in her lifetime but retired from the one she held dearest to her heart — serving as a childcare provider.
Norma Jean loved children, especially her own, and enjoyed embroidery, word puzzles and watching sports, soap operas and Judge Judy. She had a zest for shopping and cooking and wore a dimpled smile with a laugh that was hearty and contagious. She leaves behind a legacy to live and love fully.
Mrs. Morris was born on Aug. 5, 1936 to parents William Howard and Queenell Wray Campbell, who precede her in death. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Harold Milton Morris; two sisters, Geraldine Anne Campbell and Georgia Campbell Hodges; two brothers, Walter Campbell and William Earl Campbell; and four great-grandchildren, Chesney Angela Stroud, Justin Tyler Stroud, Joel Ryan Palmer and Kaleah Michelle Royal.
Surviving are her children, Rhonda (Jody) Palmer of Bassett, Melody (Bill) Sink of Rocky Mount, Darryl “Lee” Morris of Glade Hill, Anne (David) Royal of Waynesboro, Ga., and Dawn (David) Holley of Rocky Mount; 10 grandchildren, Brandi Royal, Brandon Royal, Christy Palmer, Seth Palmer, Melissa Kennedy, Lindsey Mitchell, Tyler Morris, David Royal, Diana Royal and Cannon Morris; a sister, Sue (Winford) Hodges; two brothers, Harold (Fern) Campbell and Ronnie (Pam) Campbell; a brother-in-law, Fred Hodges; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and very special friends Jack and Ruth Swicegood and Bernice, Caitlyn and Kyle Ingram, Sandi Morris.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 23, from 5-7 p.m. at Woodlawn Baptist Church. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, at Franklin Memorial Park with Pastor Eddie Hawks officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Morris’ memory to Franklin County Rescue Squad, 85 West Court St., Rocky Mount, VA 24151.
