Ferrum Comes Up Short in ODAC Men’s Lacrosse Opener

ASHLAND, Va. — Ferrum College dropped its Old Dominion Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse opener on the road, falling 20-3 to Randolph-Macon College this afternoon at Day Field.

THE BASICS
Randolph-Macon led 2-0 early in the game, courtesy of a goal each from Kevin Andrews and Andrew Tiffey. Mackoy Bodmer got Ferrum on the scoreboard at 5:48 of the first quarter with an assist from Thomas Jackson.

The Yellow Jackets scored three more goals before Michael Paolicelli scored for the Panthers, with an assist from Bodmer, to cut the lead to 5-2 with 56 seconds left in the first. Randolph-Macon rattled off 13 straight goals from that point to make it a runaway at 19-2, with Tiffey doing the most damage with five of the 13 goals. Bodmer scored his second goal of the game with 2:41 left in regulation.

Ferrum goallkeeper Patrick Martinek was pelted with 44 shots on net, posting a new school record 24 saves.

Coach Michael Baggetta’s team will be back in action Wednesday, March 11, at home against Bethany (W.Va.) College. The non-conference game is set for a 6:00 p.m. start at W.B. Adams Stadium.
