Special to Cable 12 from Ferrum College Athletics
ADRIAN, Michigan — Ferrum College senior Alisha Elizalde earned a top-eight finish at the 2020 Women’s Collegiate Wrestling Championship and became the College’s first woman wrestler to earn All-America. The tournament was held at Adrian College’s Merillat Sport & Fitness Center.
“I’m proud of how the team competed this weekend. They looked the best they have all year. Alisha Elizalde was our first All-American in the woman’s program history and Caity Richardson lost in the blood round. There has been a lot of growth throughout the season and I can’t wait to continue to help the program grow,” said Ferrum Head Coach Breonnah Neal.
Elizalde finished sixth in the 101-pound weight class to earn her All-America honor. She opened the day with a 10-0 technical fall over Johnvanique of MacMurray College, then lost a pair of matches by tech fall to Jennesis Martinez of Colorado Mesa University and Trinity Orendina of Tiffin University.
Ferrum scored 23 points to finish 16th in a field of 19 teams. McKendree University won the tournament with 191 points, with Simon Fraser University (BC) second with 178.5 points and King University (TN) third with 123 points.
