Overgrown Tree Removed Near Market Flagpole in Rocky Mount
ROCKY MOUNT – One of the trees closest to the flagpole at the Rocky Mount Farmer’s Market is being removed.
Crews with Rocky Mount Public Works were out Wednesday morning and afternoon carefully taking down the tree with a chainsaw.
The tree had become overgrown and was getting in the way of the flagpole, according to Assistant Town Manager Matt Hankins. The overgrowth was so bad that officials could no longer raise the flag up the pole, Hankins said.
In addition to the overgrowth of the tree, it was also diseased, so the decision was made to remove the tree.
Hankins says shrubs will likely replace the tree in the near future.
