Empire Bakery Opens Franklin County Facility
ROCKY MOUNT – Empire Bakery Commissary, LLC, a commercial producer of ready-made cakes, cookies and desserts, today cut the ribbon on an expansion that will create 75 new jobs in Franklin County.
The company’s $10.4 million investment includes 32,000 square feet of new space and renovations to 12,000 square feet, plus $2.3 million in new equipment. The company currently employs 183 people in Rocky Mount, already an increase of 45 employees since the project was announced in October 2018.
“Today we open the doors to our expanded facility in Rocky Mount with larger space and more associates to meet demand for our products,” said company president Mike Marek. “We’re delighted to grow here and grateful for the support of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Franklin County and the Town of Rocky Mount.”
“On behalf of the Franklin County Board of Supervisors, I congratulate Empire on its growth and we look forward to working with the company for many years to come,” said board chairman Leland Mitchell.
“This expanded facility will provide more employment opportunities for our residents and demonstrate our community’s pride in knowing that products made right here are shipped across the country,” said Rocky Mount Mayor Steve Angle. “Empire is an outstanding corporate citizen, and we are delighted to have them in Rocky Mount.”
Empire Bakery provides ready-to-sell decorated cakes and cookies for retailers throughout the United States. The company offers custom programs that can be tailored to the unique suppliers, designs, packaging and labels of its customers.
