Silas Wayne Bradner
Silas Wayne Bradner, age 78 of Penhook, passed away early Sunday, August 25, 2019. He was born on July 23, 1941, to the late Oakley and Erma (Adkins) Bradner and was also preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Bradner Jefferson; Father-in-law, Hub Blankenship; his nephew, Kerry Wayne Jefferson; brother-in-law, Steve Blankenship; sister-in-law, Lisa Blankenship. On August 9, 1969, he married his loving companion, caretaker and devoted wife of fifty years, Cathy Blankenship Bradner. He is also survived by his son, Brian, and wife, Kristin. His ultimate pride and joy were his two granddaughters, Ashlyn Paige and Avery Jane Bradner. He had an unconditional love for his “sugar lumps” and will be sorely missed by them. Also surviving him is his mother-in-law, Christine Blankenship; sisters-in-law: Ellen (Sammy) Turner; Wanda Ramey; Theresa Foley; Michelle(Kenny) Reynolds; his brothers-in-law: Thomas Jefferson; Mike Blankenship; Raymond Hodge; Jeff (Robin) Blankenship; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, two aunts, and many friends. Silas graduated from Franklin County High School and enlisted in the United States Army from 1966-1969. He was very proud to have served our Country. From there he went to work for VDOT and retired as a Superintendent after twenty-five years in 1995. He continued to work part-time from 1995-2001 for Dillons Bulldozing (Nannie) and then for Rodney Cundiff and Son’s from 2002-2010. While working public jobs he and his wife were also full time tobacco farmers, and his love for farming and the land was something that he has passed on to his son. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 28 at 12:00 p.m. at Cool Springs Christian Church in Penhook, in which he was a member of. Visitation will be one hour prior and graveside on his beloved farm immediately following. Derek Layman and Jim Walls will be officiating. Flowers are welcomed but we also appreciate donations to Cool Springs Christian Church, (Kristin Bradner 570 Danville Tpke Penhook VA 24137) for the future picnic shelter.
