Number of School Resource Officers Triples as Students Head Back to Class This Year

FRANKLIN CO. – With school back in session for the academic year, the Office of the Sheriff announced how proud they are to introduce this year’s School Resource Officers or SRO’s.

“In previous years, there have been two SRO’s at the high school and one at the middle school,” Community Outreach Coordinator H.L. Nolen explained on behalf of the sheriff’s department. “This year, there has been an additional *six* SRO’s added to the mix, who will be assigned to the elementary schools.

The SRO’s are as follows: Franklin County High School- SRO Sergeant Sandra Ingram- SRO Jeff Holland – Benjamin Franklin Middle School- SRO Suzanne Moses – Elementary Schools- SRO Keith Grantham- SRO Chris Johnson- SRO Travis Whittaker- SRO Chad Austin- SRO Callie Dungan- SRO Christy Witt.

School resource officers have become an vital part of school systems nationwide, with school shootings, bullying, and the overall need for students just to have someone to talk to. This change increases the number on on-hand officers by 300 percent compared to previous years, from three to nine.
