William J. Walker, Jr.

His faith became a sight on March 1, 2022. William J. (Bill) Walker, Jr., born July 18, 1932, was the son of the late William J. and Icie Walker. He was predeceased in death by his much-loved son, Bradley Ty; and sister, Alice Walker Jones. The love of his life was his Lord and Savior Jesus, whom he served faithfully for over sixty years through Franklin Heights Church. His passion was to see people have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. The people of Franklin County elected him to the office of Clerk of the Circuit Court in 1968 and felt a calling to serve for 28 years. Bill grew up in Rainelle, West Virginia, but after marrying the former Bonnie Peters in 1954, Franklin County quickly became the place he loved. His work ethics were unmatched and in later years with health in decline, his focus remained steadfast in being faithful. One of his last efforts was getting his testimony prepared for his family and others to read. Bill is survived by his wife, Bonnie; son, William (Bill) III (Laura), who always tried to meet his dad’s needs in a loving way; grandchildren, Ty (Shanon), Asher and AnnTaylor. His desire for them was to make good choices; two special great-grandchildren, Eve and Gratton; sister, Betty Wray Boyce, Florida; sisters-in-law, Ilene Peters, Roanoke, VA, Nancy Peters, Richmond, VA; nieces and nephews. Much appreciation to Carilion Hospice and to his caring caregivers, Eric Lilly, Becky Wood, Sharon Tyree, Tammy Brumfield and Cricket Hale. In place of flowers, anyone desiring to give in Bill’s memory please consider the Outreach Ministries of Franklin Heights Church. Visitation will be held beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2022 with services to follow at 2 p.m. at Franklin Heights Church led by Rev. J. Larry Holland. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
