James Alton Hamblett

James Alton Hamblett, age 84 of Union Hall went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 2, 2021 in his home with his loving wife by his side. He was married to his wife, Patsy P. Hamblett for 43 years. He was born November 19, 1937. He was preceded in death by his precious daughter, Linda Gail Hamblett; parents, J.B. and Hallie Hamblett; sisters, Alice Preston, Delores Glisson, Nancy Meador, Ellen Robertson; brothers, Everette, Dempsey, Clydell, Euell and Jay Hamblett. Surviving are his loving wife, Pat; daughters, Kay Jones, Veronica and Ziegler (Danny); adopted daughters, Jessica Hamblett (Shane), Jamie Hamblett Tan (Mitch); granddaughter, Kaylan Ziegler (Todd); great-grandsons, Caydem Blanks, Oliver Tan, Axl Carmichael, Ryland Brandt; his grandbabies were his pride and joy and was referred to as his “doll babies”. Also surviving are his sisters, Marcella Peters (Ray), Gerry Gilley; sisters-in-law, Vene and Sue Hamblett; many nieces and nephews.

Alton was a faithful member of Blue Ridge Gospel Chapel for 21 years. He was property manager at Highland Point Condos for 27 years and also had his own landscaping business for 25 years. He built homes for many years. Alton enjoyed golf, fishing, bowling, hunting, playing baseball, coaching football, and had a bluegrass band. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed his many cruises to different places with his wife. We can’t forget his grand-dog, Bella, aka “Snoopy”.

We would like to thank our church family, our family, Amedisys Hospice, many caregivers, Chrissy Hamm, Eve Minter, Margaret Rakes and Julia Brown. Also special thanks to Dr. Elechi, neurologist for all he has done for Alton.

Memorial services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, December 5, 2021 at Blue Ridge Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to Blue Ridge Chapel, 445 Blue Ridge Court, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151.

His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
