Daniel attended the Germantown School, Burnt Chimney Elementary School, and graduated from Franklin County High School in Rocky Mount where he met the love of his life, Jo Ann. After attending Virginia Polytechnic Institute (now Virginia Tech) where he was in the corps of cadets, he worked for Bank of Virginia for nineteen years and then became a financial planner for IDS American Express before retiring. Daniel was a lifelong member of Sandy Ridge Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, VA. He was devoted to his family and proud to be the caretaker of the Boone homeplace in Wirtz, but spent a majority of his last years at the house on Smith Mountain Lake in Moneta that he and Jo Ann built in the early 1980s with the help of their children and Daniel’s uncle, James E. “Jim” Taylor. A proud fourth-generation Franklin County native, after growing up on a working farm Daniel continued to enjoy a host of outdoor activities, from gardening and animal husbandry to camping, fishing, hunting, and boating. He was the ever-safety-conscious captain of Ski Team Boone.

The family would like to thank Dr. Frances B. Benko for her advice and wonderful care of Daniel in his last years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Daniel’s name to Sandy Ridge Baptist Church or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2021, at Mountain View Memorial Park with Pastor Joe Dillon officiating. A memorial service to celebrate Daniel’s life will be scheduled in the future. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
