ROCKY MOUNT – The Franklin County Sheriffs Department, the Town of Rocky Mount Police Department and the DEA are teaming up to combat prescription drug abuse by holding two drug take back events this Saturday.

The Rocky Mount Town police will be stationed at the Rocky Mount Walmart on Old Franklin Turnpike and the Sheriffs Department will be located at their West Lake Substation. Both events will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 24th.

Event organizers want to remind the community that no syringes, sharps or lancets of any kind can be accepted at this event.

According to the 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, “9.7 million people misused prescription pain relievers, 4.9 million people misused prescription stimulants, and 5.9 million people misused prescription tranquilizers or sedatives in 2019. The survey also showed that a majority of misused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.”
