Wildfire Spreads Quickly in Boones Mill, Crews Still Working

BOONES MILL – A wildfire near Dillon’s Mill Road in Boones Mill quickly grew from five to reportedly over 30-acres Sunday.

The call came around 12:19 for a possible woods fire. Units from Boones Mills initially responded, but the fire was deep in the woods, according to Responding Fire. Firefighters had to access the fire on foot and via ATV’s.

Crews were also called in from Callaway, Roanoke County, and the Virginia Department of Forestry. Many were still on the scene through the night Sunday.

The fire is contained.

Rain is expected in the form of showers today and Tuesday with a better chance of rain Wednesday.
