Ferrum Sweeps W&L in ODAC Baseball Doubleheader

Tim Ortega had three base hits today.

FERRUM, Va. — Ferrum College earned a sweep in its first ever Old Dominion Athletic Conference baseball action with a pair of wins over Washington & Lee University, winning 6-1 and 6-4 this afternoon at Panther Field.

THE BASICS
Washington and Lee scored a run in the first inning of the opener on an RBI double by Bryce Burnette. Ferrum answered in the fourth with a run off Jake Martin‘s RBI double and Tim Ortega‘s RBI single.

Josh Greenway‘s sacrifice fly in the sixth inning pushed another run across the plate, then Ferrum got three more in the eighth inning, one off a Will Davis fielder’s choice, and one each off Greenway and Drew Calohan RBI singles. Starter Colby Grissom earned the win after throwing six frames.

In the nightcap, starter Joey Pride remained perfect at 3-0 this season after pitching 6.1 innings. Martin had a solo home run to left field in the fifth inning and Nathaniel Anthony had a solo shot over the right field fence in the sixth.
