Rocky Mount Man Killed in House Fire Early Friday Morning

UPDATE: Officials and family members say Donald "Duck" Ledbetter, Sr., 70, died in an early morning house fire Friday. Crews were called to the fire around 4:15 a.m. The house had been converted into six studio apartments. Witnesses say Ledbetter initially escaped the fire along with everyone else, but went back inside when he died. The body has been sent to the forensic lab in Roanoke. The investigation into the fire continues. 

BURNT CHIMNEY - Officials confirm to Cable 12 that one person died in the fire. The home on 122 is a total loss, fire officials say. Crews from Burnt Chimney, Rocky Mount and Boones Mill responded to the blaze around 4:30 a.m. Belongings were being gathered from the remains Friday morning. This is a developing story, more details to come.

Sheriff's Office Hosting Drug Take Back Day April 28

DrugTakeBackDealerThe Franklin County Sheriff's Department will be hosting two locations for the Spring 2018 DEA Drug Take Back Day on April 28. 

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., deputies will be stationed at the Westlake Sheriff's Office sub-station and at the Ferrum College Police Department. The Rocky Mount Police Department will be at Walmart on Old Franklin Turnpike. 

Drug take back events are intended to remove outdated and unused drugs from medicine cabinents for safe disposal.

FCHS Theatre Selected to Perform in Scotland

suesicalROCKY MOUNT - The Franklin County High School Theatre Department's members were one out of only 50 selected to perform in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer in Scotland. The festival is the largest theatre festival in the world. 

To raise money for the trip, the theatre department will be performing the mucial Seussical April 19-22 at the FCHS auditorium. 

Showtimes are April 19-21 at 7 p.m. and April 22 at 2 p.m. Tickets for students are $5, adults are $7.
