Cynthia Ann Grumeretz Allison, age 59 of Rocky Mount died Monday, August 18, 2014. She was preceded in death by her father, Anthony Grumeretz. Surviving are her husband, Douglas Allison; mother, Deloris Grumeretz; three brothers and three sisters. Edward Green “Porter” Wagoner, age 67 of Ferrum passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014. He was born October 15, 1946 the first son of Floyd and Glendola Nichols Wagoner. Ed was a loving caring son, brother, husband and father. Ed was an avid outdoorsman and loved to travel, buy, sell and trade. He never met a stranger and was well liked by most everyone. If you knew him, you have heard “he can sell anything”. He was the owner of Walker’s Grocery on Old Forge Road for many years. He also established and owned Pigg River Trophy Trout where he enjoyed stocking trout for fishermen like himself. He attended Evangelistic House of Prayer where he played bass guitar and was a church trustee. He loved his church family deeply.
Preceding him in death were is father, Floyd Wagoner; special grandmothers, Siller Boyd Wagoner and Victoria Bowling; aunts and uncles. Ed is survived by his wife Diann; son Sam, daughter- in-law, Leah; mother Glendola Midkiff, step- father Richard Midkiff; brothers, Leon, Cedric (Deborah), Thurman (Thanhha); sister, Audrey Scott (Anthony) plus aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many cherished friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at Evangelistic House of Prayer, Rambling Rose Rd, Ferrum, Va. Rev. Bud Nichols will officiate. Interment will follow in Endicott Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the American Cancer Society, His family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday August 19, 2014 at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
Rose Mae Dickey, age 77 formerly of Smith Mountain Lake passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014. She is survived by her husband, Cody Dickey; children, Carita “Ms. Kitty” Ballou, Toni Ann Randolph, Debbielyn Clark (Dickey); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren including two special grandchildren, Nickholis Hammond and James Milton. Rose has a beauty salon in her home for many years. She was an avid square dancer, quilter and served as a volunteer on the Natural Bridge Maintenance Crew on the Appalachian Trail. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (http://www.appalachiantrail.org/donate). As the request of Mrs. Dickey there will be no services. Kelle Taylor Holy Elk Face, 53 of Wirtz passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2014. She was born December 1, 1960 in Cherry Hill, NJ. She was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving 10 years and an employee of Allstate. Kelle was a member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Buck Taylor. Kelle is survived by her husband, Leo Holy Elk Face; children, Ashlee, Nicole ( Justin) and Styles; mother, Joan Taylor, brothers, Tim and Jeff Taylor; 2 grandchildren. Memorial services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel, 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2014 with Tom Cain and Pastor Jeff Robinson officiating. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount and other times at the home of Joan Taylor, 2150 Taylors Road, Boones Mill.
On Monday, August 11, 2014 Jack Watson Blankenship, age 86 of Penhook was called home to be with his heavenly father. He was born in Danville, VA on January 28, 1928 to the late Mary Henderson and Donald Earl Blankenship. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Carlton and Dan Blankenship. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Barbara R. Blankenship; along with seven children, Jack W. Blankenship, Jr. (Debbie), Frances Wells (Charles) all of Emporia, VA, William W. Blankenship (Tammie) of Staunton, VA, Robert W. Arthur (Audrey), Deborah Hunt all of Penhook, VA, Tammy Haskins of Stephens City, VA, and Mary B. Eanes (Fred) of Halifax, VA. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 13 great- grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel R. Reynolds (Cindy) and David O. Reynolds, Leone Blankenship; nieces, nephews, special pie baking aunt, Florence Wright; special friends, Earl Sturgill and Doug Law; his church family and friends. He loved to fellowship at Boones Chapel Church of the Brethren in Penhook. He will be greatly missed by everyone, especially his faithful companion, Red Dog. Visitation will be at Boones Chapel Church of the Brethren in Penhook on Thursday, August 14 from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral services will also be held at the church on Friday, August 15 at 2 pm with Pastor Mike Gallimore officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
