Sherry Dawn Walker, age 52 formerly of Snow Creek died Tuesday, August 26, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Emmitt and Lucy Walker. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Robin Walker. Surviving are a special son, Jacob Walker and friend, Vega; Jacob’s father, Don Nichols; sisters, Peggy (Joe) Potter, Penny (Daniel) Belcher; brothers, Junior (Vicki) Walker, Donnie Walker; special aunt, Shirley Robertson; several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be conducted at Boones Chapel Church of the Brethren 3 p.m. Friday with Pastor Mike Gallimore officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Boones Chapel Church, Snow Creek Rescue Squad or a charity of choice. Clinton Young, age 69 of Callaway, departed this world, to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Friday August 22, 2014. He was born on February 9, 1945 in Ferrum, Va. son of the late John Young and Eunice Young. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson Clinton Wayne Young, two brothers and four sisters. Clinton is survived by his loving wife Ann Young of 46 years; son John Christopher Young, (Miranda); daughters Lois Young, Marie Sigmon (Mike ), Karen Spencer (Jeff Pigg), Tracie Young (Maurice Walker); nine grandsons; seven granddaughters and three great-grandchildren; special sister-in-law Susan Cooper, his special companion Boss. He enjoyed the outdoors and gardening and attended Love of Christ Church. Special thanks to Carilion Hospice of Franklin County. He was a very strong person, overcoming many obstacles and now he is at peace. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday August 25, 2014 at Love of Christ Church with Rev. H.B. Woods, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Clearview Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:00 til 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Love of Christ Church. Cynthia Ann Grumeretz Allison, age 59 of Rocky Mount died Monday, August 18, 2014. She was preceded in death by her father, Anthony Grumeretz. Surviving are her husband, Douglas Allison; mother, Deloris Grumeretz; three brothers and three sisters. Edward Green “Porter” Wagoner, age 67 of Ferrum passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014. He was born October 15, 1946 the first son of Floyd and Glendola Nichols Wagoner. Ed was a loving caring son, brother, husband and father. Ed was an avid outdoorsman and loved to travel, buy, sell and trade. He never met a stranger and was well liked by most everyone. If you knew him, you have heard “he can sell anything”. He was the owner of Walker’s Grocery on Old Forge Road for many years. He also established and owned Pigg River Trophy Trout where he enjoyed stocking trout for fishermen like himself. He attended Evangelistic House of Prayer where he played bass guitar and was a church trustee. He loved his church family deeply.
Preceding him in death were is father, Floyd Wagoner; special grandmothers, Siller Boyd Wagoner and Victoria Bowling; aunts and uncles. Ed is survived by his wife Diann; son Sam, daughter- in-law, Leah; mother Glendola Midkiff, step- father Richard Midkiff; brothers, Leon, Cedric (Deborah), Thurman (Thanhha); sister, Audrey Scott (Anthony) plus aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many cherished friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at Evangelistic House of Prayer, Rambling Rose Rd, Ferrum, Va. Rev. Bud Nichols will officiate. Interment will follow in Endicott Hill Cemetery. Rose Mae Dickey, age 77 formerly of Smith Mountain Lake passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014. She is survived by her husband, Cody Dickey; children, Carita “Ms. Kitty” Ballou, Toni Ann Randolph, Debbielyn Clark (Dickey); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren including two special grandchildren, Nickholis Hammond and James Milton. Rose has a beauty salon in her home for many years. She was an avid square dancer, quilter and served as a volunteer on the Natural Bridge Maintenance Crew on the Appalachian Trail. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (http://www.appalachiantrail.org/donate). As the request of Mrs. Dickey there will be no services.
