Gregory Lynn Kinsey, age 55 of Boones Mill passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015 after battling cancer. He was born July 7, 1959 to the late Ray and Lovella Kinsey. He was a devoted father, farmer and friend. He enjoyed bike riding, his animals and making people laugh. Surviving are his children, Kontessa and Cole Kinsey; his step-son, Stephen (Tamara) Philips; expected first granddaughter, Savella Michelle Sawyer; brothers and sisters, Jerry Kinsey, Joyce (Lonnie) Walters, Donna (George) Lewis, Arthur (Jo) Kinsey, Karen Kinsey, Sherry (Paul) Naff; and loving companion, Priscilla Kinsey. Memorial services will be conducted 7 p.m. Monday at Flora Funeral Chapel. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
Earl Lee Foley, age 78 of Fieldale, died Saturday, February 28, 2015. He was born May 10, 1936, a son of the late William Arthur and Clara Laprade Foley. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Lloyd, Fred, Archie, Kermit, and Robert Foley; sister, Vera Young. Earl was a loving father, brother, PaPa and friend.
Surviving are his sons, Doug Foley, Roger Foley (Ruth), Tracy Foley; brothers, Jimmy Foley (Shelby), Arthur Foley (Betty Jo), Donald Foley (Rita); sisters, Nancy Bousman (Carlton), Eva Dale Scarce; 9 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel, 11:00 a.m. Wednesday. Interment will follow in Henry Memorial Park. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
Leo Andrew Uhran, age 87 of Franklin County, Virginia passed away suddenly Sunday, February 22, 2015 at his residence. Leo was born outside Scranton, PA and was the son of the late John and Veronica (Gaszick) Uhran. After graduating from Waverly High School in Waverly, PA, Leo moved to Bridgeport, CT, where he married the late Rita Schrillo and spent many years in Monroe, CT, raising his four sons. Leo was a lifetime member of Monroe Volunteer Fire Department. In 1983 he married Nancy McCleskey of Georgia and moved to Virginia in 1989. He loved dairy farming, hard work, fishing and his family. Leo is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, Mark and wife Diane of Lenoir City, TN, Leo Jr. and wife Marie of Port St. Lucie, FL, John and dear friend Michelle of Monroe, CT, and Guy and wife Norma of Monroe, CT. In addition he had four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his living siblings are John Uhran of CA, Bob Uhran of FL, Irene Burgess of FL, Joan Sullivan of FLand Vernon Uhran of TN. A Mass of Resurrection will be held 11 a.m. Friday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Mark White officiating. His family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
Dale Alan Arrington, age 51 of Moneta and Lubec, Maine departed his earthly home on Sunday, February 22, 2015. Before moving to Maine 6 years ago, Dale made his home in Penhook, VA. Surviving are his wife, Catherine, of Lubec, Maine; son, John Arrington of Penhook; daughter, April Arrington of Roanoke; granddaughters, Julia Flint, Sophia Flint and Serena Flint, all of Roanoke; He was "Papa" to Gabriella, Rachel and Riley; his parents, Frank Arrington of Moneta, VA and Carol of South Carolina; brother, Keith Arrington of Roanoke; many aunts, uncles and cousins and other friends. Dale was employed in the seafood business in Maine. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Halesford Baptist Church with Pastor Melvin Harris officiating. Carla Lynn Mendelson, age 48 of Rocky Mount passed away Monday, February 23, 2015. She was born May 13, 1966. Surviving are her fiancé and the love of her life, Tommy Nichols and son Patrick; two children, Megan Carter and Howie St.Clair; mother, Janet Slough and fiancé Ted Cuddy; father, Carl Slough; sisters, Sibby Tyler, Janet Winters and Gary, Lisa Powell, Cindy Slough, Cheryl Slough; brothers, Jeff Maxie, Dwayne Slough; and five grandchildren. She was loved and will be missed deeply. She gave her love unconditionally. Her family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. Friday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
