Marie C. Hatchett

Marie HatchettMarie C. Hatchett, age 86 of Penhook died Monday, August 7, 2017. She was born on July 10, 1931 a daughter of the late James and Mary Compton of Ridgeway. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert T. Hatchett; and two brothers, Lewis Compton and Howard Compton. Surviving are her children, Robert Michael Hatchett (Bonnie Sue), Jerry Allen Hatchett (Bonnie P.), Betty Jean Moorman (Ron), Kelly Lee Hatchett (Gwen), Glenn Ross Hatchett (Terri), Laurie Anne Young (Terry); 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Larry Compton (Julie); sisters, Linda Hodges (Bob), Carol Martin, Sheryl Epperly (Curtis), Doris Faye Overby (Charles); numerous nieces and nephews. Marie was a member of Forrest Hill Christian Church
for 67 years where she was a choir member and Sunday School teacher. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a faithful wife of 64 years. Special thanks to Blue Ridge Rehab Center and Mountain Valley Hospice for the care given to our mother during her illness. Funeral services will be conducted at Forrest Hill Christian Church 2:00 p.m. Thursday with Wayne Keith, Minister and Lee Ashley, Minister officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Michael Eugene Byrd

Michael Eugene Byrd, age 68 of Boones Mill, Va. passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017. He is preceded in death by his mother, Reva Wilson Byrd; father-in- law, Marvin Webster, Sr. Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Judy Webster Byrd; father, Clarence W. Byrd; mother-in- law, Dorothy Webster; brother, Don Byrd (Barbara); sister, Sharon Layman (Dan); his in-laws, M. Cary Webster (Carolyn), Dottie Truman (Wayne), Shirley Simmons (Andrew); several nieces and nephews, Terry Blankenship (Philip), Jason Byrd (Kelly), Katie Flynn (Peter), Daniel Layman, David Webster (Mitzi), Brad Truman (Missy), Melissa Truman and Marvin Simmons (Kasey); several great nieces and nephews along with aunts and uncles; and Dakota and Joey. After a career in Home Manufacturing Mike retired as President/CEO of Smart Machines, Martinsville, Va. He was a member of Bethlehem Church of the Brethren where he served in many capacities over the years including Trustee, Deacon Chairman, Board Chairman and Finance Committee. Mike was a caring husband, son, brother, friend and neighbor always desiring to help others. Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday at Bethlehem Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Kathryn Elaine Kinsey

KathrynKinseysKathryn Elaine Kinsey, of Rocky Mount, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2017. Born May 17, 1946 in Sarasota, Florida, she was the daughter of Wellington “Wimpy” and May Stevens. She was a Sarasota resident until 2005 when she moved to Franklin County Virginia in order to be closer to her sons. Her loving and caring qualities made her a wonderful mother and a cherished friend. Her altruistic nature served her well as an indispensable healthcare provider, always extending herself to others until her own health wouldn't allow it. She was preceded in death by her
parents and sister, Barbara Messner. She is survived by her sons, Eric Smith (Adriana), Steven Kinsey (Bethanie), and Brian Kinsey (Jackie); grandchildren, Emily & Sam Kinsey and Melanie Smith; She is also survived by her nephew, Mark Messner, and niece, Michelle Messner; uncle and aunt, Issac and Dorothy Roberts, as well as many extended family members and friends. A memorial service will be held

Jesse Keith Shively

Jesse Keith Shively, Jr. (Keith), 48, of Ferrum, passed away suddenly in the early morning hours of August 5th, 2017, at Roanoke Memorial
Hospital. He was born December 26, 1968. Surviving are his parents, Brenda and Jesse Shively, Sr. of Ferrum, One sister and brother in law, Tonya Shively DeLong and H. Douglas DeLong of Moneta, one nephew, Garrison Douglas Brown, of Collinsville, many aunts, uncle and cousins; his long time circle of friends whom he loved so much and who loved him, Kevin & Cathy Wray, Greg & Katie Altice, Mark &  Lynn Foster, Jr Brown, Dwayne and Michelle Hall. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lewis and Virginia Webb of Callaway, Alvin Shively of Ferrum, Mattie Shively Cobbler and Thomas Cobler of Bassett. The service in remembrance of Keith will be held Monday, August 7th, with visitation at Faith Assembly of God Church in Ferrum beginning at 12:30, service starting at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Adam Coombs Burial immediately following at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ferrum.

The family will be receiving friends at the home of Keith's parents, Brenda and Jesse Shively in Ferrum. In lieu of flowers the family suggest that you make a contribution to the Faith Assembly of God Church Building Fund. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.

JoAnn Powell Broughman

BroughmanJoAnn Powell Broughman, age 74 of Martinsville, passed away on Friday,
July 28, 2017. JoAnn was born in Penhook, Virginia on January 4, 1943 to
Phillip and Frances Powell. She was retired from National Homes.
JoAnn is survived by two daughters and sons-in- law, Sheila and Garth
Harris, Phyllis and Jeff Roark; one son and daughter-in- law, Venton and
Christina Davis; four sisters, Barbara Dudley, Hilda Kerrick, Patsy Cumby
(Tom), Debbie (Russ); one brother, Billy Powell; six grandchildren,
Brittany Draper, Brandon Pov, Destany Davis, Logan Roark, Caroline
Hylton and Austin Webb. She also had one great-granddaughter, Ayleigh
Gross. JoAnn had numerous nieces and nephews that she adored and spent
time with. JoAnn was preceded in death by her son, Carl Davis; three
siblings, Vivian Bradner, Dixie Anderson and Julian Powell; and a special
friend; James Blankenship. The family of JoAnn Broughman wishes to
thank Roanoke Memorial Hospital for providing great care and support for
her and her family. Funeral services will be held at Stone Memorial
Christian Church 2 p.m. Monday with Pastor Tim Wood of Stone
Memorial Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow the funeral
at Henry Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on
Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center,
Rocky Mount.
