James Taylor Broce, 91 of Rocky Mount passed away Tuesday April 25, 2017. He was born February 19, 1926 and was preceded in death by his wife, Frances H. Broce; his father, Armand G. Broce and mother, Nona D. Broce; brothers, Albert A. Broce, George A. Broce and Norman E. Broce; sisters, Josephine B. Joiner, Clara K. Broce and Mary E. Broce; and son, James T. Broce, Jr. Surviving are his step-daughters, Sue D. Farris (Carl), Sandra D. Clements (Kevin); grandchildren, Robin Farris (Martha), Dillon Clements; two great-grandchildren, Isabelle Farris and Giuseppe Farris; many brothers-in- law and sisters-in- law. James was a United States Veteran of World War II and retired from the Franklin County Public School System. Following his retirement he worked as an Insurance Agent. He was also a member of Fairview Church of the Brethren. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 7 p.m. Thursday with Pastor Jeff Wray officiating. The family respectfully request no food and in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to Fairview Church of the Brethren, c/o Tommy Young, 60 Belmont Drive, Rocky Mount VA 24151. Robert “Bob” Albert Davis, age 68 of Union Hall, VA died Wednesday, April 26, 2017 in a bicycle accident. Surviving are his wife, Sani Davis; children, Alixanne Davis and Ericson Davis; five grandchildren; parents, Albert and Blanche Davis of Chesterfield; sisters, Janet and Claire; and brother, Thomas. In lieu of flowers, his family requests memorial donations be made to a charity of your choice in Bob’s name. Joan Haley Easley, age 71 went to her heavenly home on April 26, 2017. She was a mother that loved unconditionally always putting her family first. She was a proud granny who loved to spend time with her grandchildren. She had a feisty but yet caring spirit. We will cherish these memories of her forever in our hearts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Guy Easley; her parents, Calvin an Emery Weatherford and her sister, Nannie Verlene Dalton. Surviving are her daughter, Hope Easley Montgomery (Steven) and her four grandchildren, Luke Montgomery, Jacob Montgomery, Andrew Montgomery and Joshua Montgomery. One sister, Carol W. Grosnell (Bill) and three brothers, BenHaley, Wayne Haley and Eddie Weatherford, a special niece, Robin Forry and many other friends and family who loved her with all of their heart. She was a member of Cools Springs Christian Church, where in the past she served as a deacon and sang in the choir. She very much enjoyed reading the Bible, spending time with her family, working crossword puzzles and helping others when she was able. There is a hole in our hearts but we can rest assure she is in the arms of our Savior, Jesus Christ. A funeral service honoring her life will be held at Cool Springs Christian Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017 with Pastor Derrick Layman officiating. Interment will follow in Hollywood Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, April 28, 2017 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
Clarence Chitwood Boone of Rocky Mount, VA was born June 25, 1926. He departed this life for his heavenly home on April 25 th , 2017 at the age of 90 years, 10 months. He was born in Franklin County VA, the youngest son of the 14 children born to his parents, Henry E. and Alice Saloma Brubaker Boone. He was married to Nora Jean Bayer on September 27, 1947 in Boonsboro, Md. They enjoyed 69 years of married life. To this union were born 6 children: Russell Wayne, Sandra Kay, Everett Clarence, Reva Jean, Mark LaVerne and Rebecca Gail, whom they raised in their home just west of Rocky Mount. Clarence’s working years were spent as a partner with his brothers at Franklin Welding and Equipment Co. in Rocky Mount, from which he was retired. He was well known in the agriculture community as an expert parts man and appreciated interacting with the farmers and a wide variety of people that crossed his path. During his retirement years, much enjoyment was drawn from RVing, particularly at Rocky Knob on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Surviving are his wife, Nora; his children Sandra Kay Montgomery of Roanoke VA, Everett Clarence Boone of Ferrum VA, Mark LaVerne Boone (Kathleen) of Salida CA, and Rebecca Gail Austin (Terry) of Boones Mill VA; son-in- law Danny Campbell of Redwood VA; grandchildren Jill Hume (Bill), Thad Montgomery (Gayle), Mandi Smith, Cory Campbell, Chasity Campbell, Luke Boone (Jessica), Susanna Busby (Erik), Jesse Boone (Morgan), Hannah Bailey (Randy) and Leah Austin; 11 great-grand- children; sister Doris Ann Shively and husband Lester, sister Alice (Doley) Lesher; and sister- in-law Jane Boone. Preceding him in death were an infant son, Russell Wayne Boone, his daughter Reva Campbell, his parents, and 11 of his siblings. On October 8, 1950 he committed his life to Jesus Christ in baptism at the Pigg River Old German Baptist Brethren Church of which he was a member at his passing. We trust him to our gracious and loving Father in Heaven for his eternity. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 28 th , 2017 from 2-4 pm and from 5:30-9 pm. The funeral service, being officiated by the Home Brethren, will be at 11 am on Saturday, April 29 th , 2017. Both are at Pigg River Old German Baptist Brethren Church at 6090 Six Mile Post Rd., Rocky Mount, VA. Interment will follow at Mountain View Memorial Park in Boones Mill VA. Mildred Shively Scott, age 98 of Henry died Friday, April 28, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Russell Scott; parents, Mark and Lula Shively; sisters, Geneva Hodges, Opal Thompson, Virginia Hodges; brothers, Millard, Kermit and Garvice Shively; and granddaughter, Sherry Young. Mrs. Scott was a member of Ferrum Faith Assembly of God Church and loved the Lord and reading her Bible. She enjoyed her flowers and watching birds especially red birds which were her favorite. Surviving are her children, Doris Carter, James Scott (Regina), Phyllis Young (Joel), Wanda Scott, and Rita Scott; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; six great-great- grandchildren; sisters, Estelle Thompson and Mary Sauer; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 3 p.m. Sunday with Pastor Roger Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to Fork Mountain Rescue Squad. The family requests no food. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
