Frances H. Broce, age 84 of Rocky Mount, VA went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 21, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin O. and Madaline J. Hodges; and her sister, Elsie Young. Mrs. Broce was a longtime member of Fairview Church of the Brethren. She also loved planting flowers and spending time in nature. She is survived by her husband, James T. Broce; her children, Susan D. and Carl Farris, Sandra D. and Kevin Clements; her grandchildren, Robin Farris (Martha), and Dillon Clements; also two great- grandchildren; her sisters, Rebecca Preston (Alvah), Betty Hall, Billie Hodges, Helen Bennet (Jimmy), Patricia Law (Lewis), Doris Buckner (Fred); many beloved nieces and nephews. Mrs. Broce was retired from Dupont Corporation after many years of faithful service. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Thursday with Pastor Jeff Wray officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Fairview Church of the Brethren. The family respectfully requests no food. Michelle Ann Jones, age 63 of Rocky Mount went to be with her Savior on Thursday, March 16, 2017. She was preceded in death by her father, James L. Anderson; and sisters-in- law, Betty Jones and Janet Stump. Michelle is survived by her husband, Nathan J. Jones; one daughter and son-in- law, Jennifer Adkins and Kevin; mother, Yvonne V. Anderson; three grandchildren, Morgan J. Adkins, Lucas M. Webb, and Tracy J. Webb; one brother, James C. Anderson; one sister and brother-in-law, Carol M. Wood and Brent; father and mother-in- law, A.J. and Joyce Jones; and one sister-in- law, Ann Nichols. She is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Flint Hill United Methodist Church or your local Rescue Squad. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Russon Bibbs and Pastor Doug Sasser officiating. Interment will follow in the Thurman Family Cemetery. Dr. James H. Rucker, Jr., age 65 of Rocky Mount passed away Wednesday March 15, 2017 at his home. He was born on February 21, 1952 and served the community through his dental practice in Rocky Mount for over 30 years. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, Dr. James and Juliette Rucker. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Rucker; children, Simon (Amanda) Rucker, and Sarah (Kevin) Campbell; a very special grandson, Eli Rucker; a sister, Linda (Van) Hubbard; and brother, Sam (Debbie) Rucker; as well as several nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Furnace Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Philip Bramblet officiating. Andrew Darin Jones, age 42 of Ferrum passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017 surrounded by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Jones; grandparents, Benjamin and Catherine Johnson, Frank and Ophelia Jones; and step-grandmother, Bernice Jones. Surviving are his son, Gabriel Jones; father, Coy Jones and special friend Sue Whorley; sister, Carrie Altice (Brian); nieces, Callie, Catie and Brylie Altice; and nephew, Branson Altice; aunts and uncles, Buddy Johnson, Becky and Dana Keener, Rhoda Leyland, Betty and Larry Higley, Danny and Brenda Jones, Sammy and Betty Mae Jones; many cousins and special friends. Andy was a graduate of Franklin County High School Class of 1993 and Roanoke College Class of 1997 where he was active in Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Friday with Dr. Stan Parris officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Alvin Lee Brinkley II, 40 years old of Moneta, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 6, 2017. He is survived by his father and mother, Alvin and Brenda Brinkley; his sister, Jo Ann Brinkley; and his fiancé, Kelly Bonforte. Alvin opened a thriving flooring store at the lake. He took pride in his work and made so many special friends along the way. As most of you know, he was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt deer, turkey, and morel mushrooms. Fishing for Stripers was his passion. Anyone who has had the pleasure of fishing with him knows he liked to be referred to as "Captain Alvin, the Fish Slayer". He will be missed by so many who loved him. We know he is in a better place now.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Halesford Baptist Church with Pastor Melvin Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
