Elsie T. Starkey, 90 of Wirtz, Va. was called to eternity on Saturday, June 23, 2018. She was born November 8, 1927 in Wirtz, Va. to Sallie & Jubal Taylor. She was preceded in death by her husband James Starkey and grandson, Pierce Alexander. Elsie believed in showing love to everyone she met. Left to cherish her memories; 5 sons; Larnell (Deneice) Starkey of Rocky Mount, Va., Walter (Judy) Starkey, Danny Starkey, Tim (Shewan) Starkey, Demone (Denita) Starkey of Wirtz, Va., one daughter; Dar (Rev. Gary) Alexander of Wirtz, Va.

The family will received visitors Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at The Pigg River Community Building 2410 South Main St. Rocky Mount, Va. 24151 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Funeral Service will be Thursday 11:00 a.m. at the Pigg River Community Building and A Private Family Memorial at 2:00 p.m. at The Chestnut Grove Baptist Church 50 Inglewood Road Wirtz, Va. 24184.

Clifton Lee Meador

Lee Meador 3Clifton Lee Meador, 71 of Wirtz, VA died on Wednesday, June 20, 2018. Lee proudly served his country in the United States Army, and worked with the phone company until his retirement. He worked on his beloved farm his entire life, carrying out the Meador Farm legacy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hatcher and Sylvia Holland Meador; brother, Dick. Survived by his son, Keith and daughter Kim Meador Powell (Lee); sister, Bertie Farmer (David); special friend, Janice Thurman; mother of his children, Linda Meador; his grandchildren, Griffin Hatcher and Brynn Margaret Meador, Gavin and Emma Powell; nephews, Jeff and Andy Farmer. His family wishes to thank all of our special friends and neighbors for all their help and prayers. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m., Saturday, June 23, 2018 with Dr. Jackie Spence officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Claudia Ann Dembinski

Claudia Ann Dembinski, age 73 of Wirtz passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2018.She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Cira Witte; Claudia is survived by her husband, Stanley; daughters, Sonya Lovett (Michael) and Samantha Cruz (Oscar); six grandchildren, Tyler Sanders, Zachary Sanders, Eric Lovett, Hunter Norz, Emily Cruz and Sara Cruz; sister, Marilyn Bird. Claudia retired from Rutgers University as an Administrative Assistant. She was also the secretary for the Jersey Girls of Smith Mountain Lake. The family request memorials be made to Gentle Shepard Hospice, 6045 Peters Creek Rd, Roanoke, VA 24019. Memorial services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel, (Rocky Mount) 6:00 p.m., Saturday June 23, 2018 with Chaplain Rick Poland officiating. William Toby Walker

William WalkerWilliam Toby Walker, 51, of Callaway Virginia died Saturday, June 16th, 2018. He was born in Gastonia, North Carolina son of Ann Walker and the late William (Bill) Walker. He is survived by his two daughters, Alicia Walker and Robin Walker. He is preceded in death by both grandparents, Mary and AC Walker as well as Elizabeth and Gene Reese all of Gastonia, North Carolina. He was an avid fisher, hunter, and enjoyed being outdoors with his beloved pet, Remington. There will be no service and his ashes will be spread by his immediate family, over several counties, in places he loved. Please consider making a donation to Hunters For the Hungry in his memory. Junior Carl ShivelyJunior Carl Shively age 88 of Ferrum died peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Thursday, June 14, 2018. He was a retired mechanic at Franklin County Landfill. He was a devoted dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa. He was a talented singer and musician. He loved hunting, fishing, and playing setback with his friends and family. He was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church and loved his church family. He was born on June 7, 1930 to the late Luther and Jathinia Shively. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta Shively. Also preceding him in death was his brothers, Robert, Murphy, and Emmett and his sisters Nannie Bell Trail, Meda Gillispie, Lola Johnson, Betty Martin, and Vira Shively. His family was the joy of his life. He is survived by his children Margie Bowling (Wayne), Regena Shively (Danny Jones), Christel Scott (Glenn), David Shively (Rachel) and Tim Shively (Cindy). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jonathan Scott (Alla), Shannon Bowling (Tonya), Kevin Bowling (Heather), Amanda Blankenship (Denny), Sara Padilla (Carlos), and great-grandchildren Alexander Scott, Courtney Bowles, Brent Bowling, Emily Bowling, Hayden Bowling, Daniel Bowling, William Law, and Gabriela Padilla. Surviving also are his sisters-in-law Nadine Scott and Patsy Carter (Roger) and special hunting friends Lester Shively and Billy Talley. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 19, 2018 with Rev. Barry Cundiff and Chaplain Rick Poland. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to Mill Creek Baptist Church of Henry, VA. His family will receive friends from 6-8 pm. Monday at Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount. The family acknowledges with gratitude his caregivers Melody Clifton, Missy Upchurch, Melissa Hodges, Lynn Harrison, and the hospice team that cared for him during his illness.
