Mary France Cannaday, 98, of Ferrum went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 29, 2017. Mary was a devoted wife and mother who loved providing for her family. Proverbs 31 speaks to the Godly woman that she was, “She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness… Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise.” She was preceded in death by her husband, Taft “PT” Cannaday of Ferrum; and her son, Lynwood Taft “Fidge” Cannaday, Sr.; and her siblings. Surviving is her grandson, Lynwood T. Cannaday, Jr. of Ferrum; her step-grand- daughter, Theresa L. Bailey of Rocky Mount; her step-great- granddaughter, Jessica Foy of Wirtz; and all of Mary’s nieces and nephews. Special thanks to her caregiver Sally Martin and all those who knew and loved Mary. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Wednesday with Chaplain Rick Poland officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
Martha Ann Peake Naff, 80, of Rocky Mount, VA passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank & Martha Peake; and husband, Euell Walker Naff, all of Rocky Mount, VA. She was a life-long member of Rocky Mount United Methodist Church where she also served as a coordinator of the Church Prayer Chain & member of the choir. Martha Ann was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed reading books, obtained a large mountain climbing book collection, and was an animal lover (especially wolves). She will always be remembered for her sense of humor & friendly smile. Survivors include her son & daughter-in- law, Leighton & Melissa Naff of Lexington, KY; brother & sister-in- law Frank Jr & Genie Peake of Fletcher, NC. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 31 st at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church with Rev. Will Waller officiating. Interment will follow in High Street Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the interment at a reception held at the church. Danny Herman Altice, 63, of Boones Mill, VA, passed away Thursday, May 25, in comfort at home, surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Vickie; dog Izzy; his two sons, John (wife Leigh and dog Chester) of Falls Church, VA, Jeffrey (wife Cheryl and daughter Lilia) of Beltsville, MD; in addition to many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Danny was born on March 10, 1954 in Rocky Mount, VA to Herman and Marie Altice. He grew up in Rocky Mount and graduated from Franklin County High School in 1972. Danny married his bride on November 12, 1977. They welcomed sons John and Jeffrey in 1980 and 1982, respectively. The family lived happily in Rocky Mount until Danny’s retirement in 2010. Danny enjoyed working for the Virginia Department of Transportation as an inspector in the Rocky Mount district for 42 years. He loved his work, as well as the people he would meet and work with along the way. In retirement, he enjoyed driving the many roads he helped create, spending time with family, his dog, painting mountains surrounding his home from the front porch, and reading the many books he collected. The family would like to thank Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their care and support during this difficult time. A celebration of life service will be conducted 4:00 p.m. Tuesday May 30, 2017 at the home, 3281 Naff Road Boones Mill, VA. 24065, with Pastor Todd Reed officiating. Nellie Irene Perdue Kirk, age 91 of Rocky Mount passed away Saturday May 27, 2017. She was a long time resident of the Truvine Community, where she was well loved. She was a busy homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. Mrs. Kirk was preceded in death by; her husband, Emerson Kirk, three sisters and one brother, her daughter and son-in- law, Rosemary and Morton Hodges. Surviving are her grandsons, Patrick (Jaime) and Ben (Tammy) Hodges, 13 great-grandchildren, and a great grandson-in- law to be and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at Flora Funeral Chapel with Pastor Joseph Pjecha officiating. Interment will follow in the Kirk Family Cemetery. Charlotte Faye Meeks Gentry age 73 of Franklin County went peacefully to the Lord surrounded by her family on Saturday, May 27, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Charles Gentry; mother, Mildred Hodges; grandmother, Onie Willie; several aunt, uncles and cousins. Charlotte was a loving wife, mother and Nana. She loved life to the fullest, she enjoyed nature, arts and crafts, flowers and singing gospel songs, but most of all she loved her family.
Left to celebrate her life are her daughters, Cynthia Altice Hyler and husband Harold, Sonja Altice and husband Keith; four grandchildren Travis Hyler (Sarah), Ailsa Hyler, Jessica Altice and Brittany Hyler.
