Ronald Lee Burroughs

Ronald BurroughsAfter a long and courageous battle with cancer, our Lord has called Ron home. He was born November 29, 1949 in Roanoke, VA and was the son of William (Bill) and Alice Burroughs. He graduated from William Fleming High School in 1968, and then he joined the United States Army from 1969 - 1972. He was stationed with the 2nd Bat 508th ABN Infantry, 82nd ABN Division in Fort Bragg, NC. He fought for our country in the Vietnam War with the 1st Battalion 69th Armor Infantry Division in AHN/KHE, South Vietnam. He moved to Franklin County in 1978. He worked for Franklin Auto Parts for 10 years. He then went on to work at the Franklin County Sheriff's Department in Communications 9-1- 1 for 26 years. He retired on April 1, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Peggy, whom he called the love of his life; three daughters, Catherine Burroughs, Karen Burroughs, and Robin Morris (Robert) and one son, Kevin Burroughs; three stepdaughters, Cyndi Furrow (Calvin), Terri Prillaman (Matthew) and Kristal Brazauskas (William); one brother, Billy Burroughs (Linda) and one sister Patricia Epperly (Garry); five granddaughters, one great grandson, three step granddaughters, one step grandson, two step great-granddaughters and one step great-grandson. Ron was a member of the Rocky Mount Moose Lodge #155 for 35 years. He was an exceptional person who loved people. He loved his job and everyone he worked with. Last but not least, he was an avid fan of John Wayne. A special thank you to the staff at Medi Health Home Hospice and his step children for making it possible for him to spend his last days at home. Visitation will be at Flora Funeral Service on Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 6 to 8. His funeral will be on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Gene Gillette officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park with full military honors. Go spread your wings, my love; you are healed now. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
