ROCKY MOUNT - Franklin County High School Athletics will be working with Carilion Orthopedics to provide sports physicals for area high school and middle school students this year on May 20 at 11:00 AM at the ION complex located at 2331 Franklin Road in Roanoke.
“This is a change for us but one that we are hopeful will be able to provide more comprehensive information to accompany sports physicals”, states Head Athletic Trainer Angela White of the change.
This change is coming after Franklin County High School participated pediatric cardiac study Carilion conducted last year as part of the sports physicals hosted at the high school. Franklin County will be providing transportation to and from Roanoke for students who are getting a physical at ION. Permission slips and pages one, two and four of the VHSL physical must be completed before students will be allowed to board the bus which will depart from Central Gym promptly at 10:00 AM on May 20.
The deadline to reserve a spot for provided transportation is May 12. Provided transportation is not mandatory, if athletes choose to utilize their own transportation they are asked to arrive at ION no later than 10:45 AM on May 20. The cost for physicals is $15.00 with proceeds going to the Franklin County Sports Medicine program as part an ongoing fundraiser.
Per VHSL regulations, current sports physicals are valid through June 30 and physicals for the 2017-2018 academic year must be dated after May 1, 2017. Students must have a current VHSL physical on file to participate in tryouts, out of season conditioning or open gyms.
