schoolbrdroadROCKY MOUNT - The town of Rocky Mount says they will need until February 8 to fix a damaged and eroded culvert pipe on School Board Road. The road closure just past Sheetz to the Franklin Co. School's Transportation Department will remain in effect until then.

The closure will affect school buses, Franklin Heights Baptist Church members, and Franklin Heights residents.

The upper end of School Board Road by Rocky Mount Elementary will still be used as a detour.

The closure comes following a year of record rainfall in the region. In 2018, Roanoke picked up a total of 62. 46" of rain, the most rain ever recorded in the area. In neighboring Martinsville, 72.95" of rain fell in 2018, a record for the area as well. Rainfall in Rocky Mount and Franklin County in 2018 ranged from 60-70".

A dry weather pattern will start on Saturday and last through next Friday.
