For those of you who didn't know Charles Wagner, I thought I would share with you a story that shows you what a great man he was:
When he was on the F.C. Board of Supervisors, he would come on our Cable 12 morning show, Rise and Shine. About 10 years ago, I was doing weather and Charles was getting ready to be interviewed off camera.
I jokingly said on-air that I was hungry, and something to the effect of "you'd think the Board of Supervisors could at least bring us breakfast, I mean, really!"
I didn't think anything of it, did the weather, Charles did his interview.
A month later, it's time for the Board of Supervisors to be on the show again. In walks the group with a huge bag of biscuits!
Well, that shut me up!
Every month after that, when the Board was on the show, a big bag of biscuits were brought in for the Cable 12 crew.
No one personally took credit for buying them, but I after a few years, I noticed a trend: the biscuits only came in when Charles was in the group.
Charles kept the running joke going for years and years. It only got funnier each time.
Right after the most recent election, where he lost his seat, he was still scheduled to come on our show, and yes, even after things didn't go his way, he still brought those biscuits!
If you add up the monthly appearances over 10 years. it adds up!
Charles Wagner was a friend and Franklin County is blessed to have such a down-to-earth public servant.
I'll miss him..
and I'll miss the biscuits, Charles.
