State Police Arrest 42 Drunk Drivers in 48 Hours During July 4 Holiday Period

duiRICHMOND - Virginia State Police say they arrested 42 people over a 2-day period from 12:01 Tuesday, July 3 to July 4 midnight this year during its operation CARE (Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort) program.

There were three crash deaths during the period, down from the total of nine in 2017, according to a news release.

Troopers also stopped  4,911 speeders and 1,251 reckless drivers along with 429 seat belt violations and 114 child restraint violations.
