Ferrum Set to Host NCAA Div. III Wrestling Regional

III Wrestling Southeast Regional Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-24, at Franklin County High School in Rocky Mount, Virginia. This is the third time in the past four years that Head Coach Nate Yetzer and the Panthers have hosted an NCAA qualifier. 

Ferrum hosted wrestling regional tournaments last year at Franklin County High School and in 2015 at the Berglund Center in Roanoke. The Panthers are set to host the 2019 NCAA Div. III Wrestling National Championship March 8-9 at the Berglund Center. This year's wrestling regional is the 10th time Ferrum has hosted NCAA postseason play.

2014 - Women's Basketball 1st & 2nd rounds (Ferrum) 
2015 - Wrestling Regional (Roanoke, Va.)
2017 - Wrestling Regional (Rocky Mount, Va.)
2018 - Wrestling Regional (Rocky Mount, Va.)

There are six regional wrestling tournaments being contested across the country, with the top three wrestlers in each of 10 weight classes advancing to the 2018 NCAA Div. III Wrestling National Championships March 9-10 in Cleveland, Ohio. A total of 180 wrestlers will compete in this year's NCAA Tournament.

The NCAA's Div. III Southeast Region includes 18 schools from four states (MD, NC, PA, VA)Averett, Delaware Valley, Ferrum, Gettysburg, Greensboro, Hampden-Sydney, Johns Hopkins, King's (PA), Lycoming, McDaniel, Messiah, Penn Tech, Penn State-Behrend, Southern Virginia, Thiel, Washington and Lee, Wilkes, York (PA).

Ferrum won last year's NCAA Div. III East Regional, sending three wrestlers on to the NCAA Tournament; Zach Beckner (125); Collin Saunders (149) and Logan Meister (157). It was the third NCAA Tournament appearance for Meister, who is now an assistant coach at Ferrum. Beckner would close out his rookie campaign with an NCAA runner-up finish.
