FRANKLIN COUNTY – The body of a woman killed on U.S. 220 Friday night in Franklin County has been sent to the medical examiner's office in Roanoke for identification, state police say.
Investigators say a female pedestrian was walking in the center of the left southbound lane on 220 around 7 p.m. when she was hit by a 2003 Chevy Cavalier, traveling south. After the initial impact, the woman was hit by three other vehicles in the left hand lane.
The victim was not carrying an ID, so the body has been sent to Roanoke for identification.
The woman was killed one mile south of Route 635.
The Virginia State Police Reconstruction Team assisted in the investigation.
The crash remains under investigation.
