F.C. Ag Fair Seeks Competition Exhibits

i1qu4F WFRANKLIN COUNTY - The fourth annual Franklin County Agricultural Fair (FCAF) scheduled for Sept 13-16 seeks to showcase agriculture-related skills and highlight the most prized locally-grown produce and locally-made products in the region. From fresh vegetables and fruit to jams, pumpkins, quilts and more, the fair is featuring the best of the best in homegrown local talent.
Of convenience to participants, the entry day for dropping off competitive exhibits has been extended from one to two days. Entries will be accepted on Sunday, Sept 10 from 2-5 pm and on Monday, Sept 11 from 3-7 pm at the Franklin County Recreation Park – site of the 2017 fairgrounds. The event will allow participants to enter in a variety of agriculture related items under three broad division categories (Agriculture Products, Homemaking and Crafts).
Categories which are further broken down by class, include fresh and canned fruits and vegetables, baked goods, canned meats, flowers, quilts and more. Participants may enter items in various categories, but are limited to only one item per class. There is no fee to enter. The top three winners in each class will be awarded ribbons and cash prizes - $3 for first place blue ribbon, $2 for second place red ribbon and $1 for third place yellow ribbon.
“Competitive exhibits are a great way to celebrate local and regional agriculture, and the skills of the participants who grow and create these wonderful items,” said Carol Haynes, extension agent with Virginia Cooperative Extension who is chair of the fair’s competitions committee
chair.
