Ferrum Baseball Splits on Day Two of USA South Baseball Tournament in Georgia

LaGRANGE, Ga. -- #3 seed Ferrum College split a pair of baseball games Thursday, April 12, during day two of the 2018 USA South Tournament. The Panthers survived an elimination game against #7 Maryville College with a 6-1 win, then fell 10-5 to top-seeded Methodist University and was eliminated.

Ferrum belted out 11 base hits in the win over Maryville. Jake Martin was 3-5 with an RBI and a stolen base for the Panthers. Joey Pride (3-5) pitched a complete nine-inning game to get the win, allowing eight hits, an earned run and two walks with one strikeout. Jake Peterson had a pair of hits for the Scots. Against Methodist, catcher Tim Ortega was a perfect 4-4 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI, and Garrett Dorton had a solo homer in the fifth inning. Starter Drew Calohan (4-2) got the loss after allowing 12 hits, 10 earned runs and four walks with four strikeouts.

Coach Ryan Brittle's team will be back in action Tuesday, April 17, at home against Washington and Lee University. The non-conference game is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start at Panther Field. The Panthers then host Lynchburg College in a non-conference game Wednesday, April 18, at 6:00 p.m.
