Rocky Mount Man Killed in Crash Friday

FRANKLIN COUNTY – A Rocky Mount man was killed Friday when the vehicle he was driving ran off the road and hit a tree, according to Virginia State Police. Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash, which happened at 4:19 p.m. Friday (April 16, 2021).

Jay Linwood Tyree Hodges, 52, was driving north on English Road south of Sandstone Lane when the vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway and hit a tree. First responders reported that the tree then fell on the vehicle.

Hodges was not wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation.

Arrangements for Hodges are by Flora Funeral Service in Rocky Mount.

“A memorial service officiated by Jeff Wray will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Church of the Brethren in Rocky Mount, Virginia. Visitation will be held an hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fairview Church of the Brethren Outreach, 60 Belmont Dr. Rocky Mount, VA 24151,” the obituary says.
