Kids Fishing Day Returns to Woody Lake

SONTAG – The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and the Franklin County Parks and Recreation Department have teamed up once again to bring the annual “Kids Fishing Day” back to Woody Lake.

This event is free and open to all anglers 15 and under. Woody Lake will be stocked with trout and young anglers will attempt to catch the biggest, or smallest, fish of the day for a variety of prizes.

Anglers 16 and older are reminded that you cannont assist with catching a fish, setting the hook and /or retrieving the fish per DGIF regulations. Woody Lake will remain a “youth only stocked trout water” through June 1st.

Pro Tip: The southern end of Woody Lake features deeper water typically favored by cold water fish such as trout. A 1/4 oz. Kastmaster spoon on light spinning tackle can lead to further casts from the dam and the opportunity to reach fish others cannot.
