COVID Cases Rising at an Alarming Rate in Franklin Co.

ROCKY MOUNT – Last Thursday, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) reports approximately 2,594 confirmed COVID cases in Franklin County. This is a remarkable increase of 66 cases overnight, a new daily
record. The 7-day average number of new daily cases per 100,000 population reported is 58, which is higher than the current state locality average.

Since Thanksgiving, the County has seen an increase of over 1,000
new cases where the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) continues to advise Franklin County residents and businesses to adhere to wearing facial coverings or masks in public areas; exercise social distancing; and practice good hand hygiene. Taking actions both now and in the coming weeks is critical in slowing the spread of COVID-19.

With the recent significant increases of COVID positive cases in the local community and greater region, Franklin County expresses it is vitally important for area residents and visitors to continue to adhere to wearing facial coverings or masks in public areas; exercise social distancing; and practice good hand hygiene.

Such measures are critical in an effort for not only one’s personal health, but also for the health of the County’s hospital, nursing home, first responders and other medical care workers during the ongoing pandemic. The County urges everyone to take the necessary precautions and help keep the medical community, as well as the elderly and those with compromised immune systems to safe at this time.
