COVID Cases in Franklin Co. Increase By 100 in Nine Days

ROCKY MOUNT, VA – Franklin County officials are urging citizens to continue practicing social distancing and wearing masks as COVID-19 continues to spread through the community.

In a new release Friday evening, the county reported a total of 471 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Franklin County, an increase of 100 in a nine-day span. Officials call the increase “sizable” for such a short time span.

“Roanoke is seeing sustained community transmission of COVID-19, as the number of confirmed cases has risen to a larger level and [with] multiple outbreaks occurring,” the release said.

Franklin County continues to express how important it is for folks to continue wearing facial coverings in public areas, exercising social distancing, and practicing good hygiene.

“Such measures are critical… for not only one’s personal health, but also for the health of the county’s hospital, nursing home, first responders, and other medical care workers during the ongoing pandemic,” the release explained.

Residents are urged to practice healthy disease prevention practices including:
• Wearing a mask or face covering
• Exercising Social Distancing of at least 6 feet
• Washing hands often with soap (preferably 20 or more second duration)
• Avoiding touching your face with unwashed hands
• Avoiding close contact with people who are sick
• Staying home if you are sick
• Avoiding large groups of persons
• Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces
